Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris is the first book of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. These are the same novels that the HBO series True Blood is based on. Now I have only seen the 1st 3 episodes of True Blood and what I saw, well, really didn't impress me. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the actors. But I couldn't get hooked on it. I do have it on my Netflix rotation to see the entire 1st season but that's kind of down the road.
I did pick up the first novel, Dead Until Dark. It is the same storyline as the television series with a few differences. There are some characters in the tv series not in the book and vice versa. I have to say that I really did enjoy the book A LOT more than the tv series. I'm very much looking forward to picking up the second book!
My suggestion, if you didn't like the tv series, try the book.

I love those books...and because I do I really have no interest in watching the tv series.Somehow I never like the movies as well as the books. Keep with the series...I think you'll be glad you did!
i have listened to 1-5 of those books on my ipod while in work, some parts had me laughing out loud and then some i was blushing so much i had to switch it off hehe v.good though i enjoyed them :)
I started reading those books a few days ago! I've read the first 3 books in like 5 days LOL I love them!
I read these books quite awhile ago (at least the first few and have been reading them as they are published since).
I do LOVE the books.
But agree that the one episode of the HBO series I saw was kinda blah. Hope you enjoy the rest of the books!
I love the Sookie books and I watched the whole season of True Blood. it is ok. Acting isn't the greatest.
