Yesterday I attended a small business conference at Michoud Facility. This Facility is where NASA builds some of their tanks. It was very interesting. The conference was held in a building that covers 42 acres. HUGE building. The employees each have bikes or golf carts to get around the area. The conference was held in only a small area (which was large enough! lots of walking) of the building and tours were held of the rest of the building.
The conference was small breakout sessions about small businesses, 8(a) businesses, and women owned businesses. All information was about how to become certified to bid on federal contracts. My head was sooo stuffed full of information. I'm not sure I've absorbed it all. I still have paperwork that I picked up that I need to read through!
While at the conference I did make a contact with a young woman who works for a PR company. Somehow we got talking about my previous experience working with associations and conventions. Woo hoo! Now it may not lead to anything but she did ask for my contact information because, if I didn't mind, she would forward it on to the HR department at her company because as of right now they only have 1 event planner and they used to have 2.
Then upon my return home last evening, I received a phone call from a company that I had put in a resume with about 2 weeks ago. I had actually forgotten about it and almost didn't answer my phone as I didn't recognize the number. I am so glad I did. They held an impromptu phone interview and then asked if they could call me back again later for more information as I was the first person they had called. Of course I said yes! I 'd be crazy to say no!!!
So it was a very full day for me! Full of information and opportunity! Makes being optimistic that much easier when one has days like that!!! :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Join me on this journey that I like to call "life". It's a world of friends, family, laughter, crafts, sports, books, and anything goes!

Keeping Busy!
It's been a few weeks since my last post. I'm terrible at keeping this up! I don't do much better with my own personal journal either. See! I'm consistent with being inconsistent! LOL
Weather
The weather has been crazy lately. Sunny one day, rainy the next. A few days of really intense cold (lows in the 20s, that's pretty intensely cold for the South) and then warming back up to the 60s. I cannot wait for spring to arrive! Sunday was pretty nice weather, sunny and in the 50s, so I spent some time on my patio cleaning up some of the damages of winter. I swept up a garbage bag full of leaves. I live on the 2nd floor so as you can imagine, the wind has been kind of wicked this winter!
Cooking
The last 2 Sundays, I have cooked dinner for my parents. Typically my Dad always cooks Sunday dinner but I've done it the past two Sundays. The first Sunday I made rosemary chicken with red potatos. It was sooo good and easy! Yesterday I made chicken cacciatore. Once again, sooo easy and good. How was it so easy? (ready for a commercial?) McCormick Recipe Inspirations. Ever heard of them? They are packets of spices that are required for a meal. The packet includes all the spices, a grocery list of other ingredients and then the actual recipe. It really is simple! Even my Dad liked it! And he's a tough customer!
Job Hunting
I am still looking for a job. I keep on sending out resumes. I've had a few interviews but nothing "good" has come along yet. I'm hopeful though! One of the guys in my apartment complex has been unemployed for the past 3 years and last week he finally landed a job! I take that as a good sign that things are starting to turn around in the economy!
Exercising
I've been exercising for the past 2 months. Yep, I can't believe that I've kept it up for 2 whole months. I hope that this is a habit that I can continue! As much as I hate to admit it, (Jill is laughing to herself to hear this) it does help take the edge off the stress and I feel much better after a good brisk workout! Makes me look forward to the spring when I can take the workouts outside!!!
Stitching
I've been stitching. I've already accomplished 1/2 of one of my stitching goals. I have finished the 2nd page of Queen of Hearts! Yay me! Of course it has been pretty easy stitching as it was only 4 colors but you can start seeing items instead of just "blobs". In the bottom right corner you can start to see one of her wings emerge!
The other WIP I picked up this weekend was The Kiss by Mirabilia. I couldn't remember the last time I stitched on it so I did a little searching of the ole blog here. The last time I posted an update was July 2009 (click here for the last photo and post of The Kiss)!! Yep, over a year and a half ago! Wow! And it is such an easy stitch! In the post I stated that I had run out of one of the threads. Guess what!? I still didn't have it when I pulled it out on Saturday. When I realized it, it was about 2 pm, my LNS closes at 3. I jumped off the couch and ran right out to get the kreinik thread I needed to continue. As you can tell by this updated photo, there is a ton of kreinik threads in it! It has been so long since I've started this project I don't even know what color fabric this is or who I purchased it from! What a shame because it is sooo pretty!

What a Yucky Day!
Today is not a good weather day for us here in the South. It is cold (40s) and rainy! What a nasty combination! But it was a perfect day for a movie!!! :)
I am proud to say that my LSU Tigers won the 75th annual Cotton Bowl! Yay! Now we all sit and wait to see if our coach, Les Miles, will be going to Michigan's empty coaching position.
On the other hand, our beloved New Orleans Saints fell to the Seattle Seahawks in the first playoff game. Blegh! While I did not expect them to go much further than the 1st game of the playoffs, it was still disappointing to lose to a team that has a losing record!!! And Pete Carroll! Yuck yuck yuck yuck!!!!!
Today I went to the movies to see the 3rd Chronicles of Narnia movie, Voyage of the Dawn Treader. If you haven't seen this movie yet, go and see it before it leaves the theatres!!! It was a great way to "lose" yourself for two hours in a great story. I am still wanting to read the series and have a book that contains the entire series already, just needing to find some time to read it! Of course I do have to finish the book I am currently reading and then their is the Lord of the Rings Triology that my friend Jill is currently reading and I haven't even started!
After the movie I stopped at Barnes & Noble for the Sunday paper and a cross stitch magazine. Brought the two home and spent some time looking at the open jobs in the classified section and looking at the magazine for future Christmas gifts/decoration ideas.
There were some good open jobs in the paper today so I am hoping that eventually I will land a job that I 1. like and 2. feel financially secure in! I have so many people praying for me that I feel truly blessed!!! It definitely helps me to keep a good attitude about the situation. Although I am only human and fall to the blues at times but then I spend some time with my friends and family or go to church or just do something for myself and my dog. I'm learning that while it is easy to succomb to the blues, it is so much better to fight as hard as you can to not do so! Even if it is exhausting!
I have been stitching. That is always a good way for me to forget things going on. I've been stitching on my HAED: Queen of Hearts. My goal for this year is to stich 2 pages of this pattern. Well I am happy to report that after the 1st week of the new year, I have successfully made 25% progress on this one! Yippee! That means more time to stitch on all my other goals!
Queen of Hearts, 1 1/2 pages completed:
Looks like we are going to have a really cold week ahead of us. I have fresh, clean, flannel sheets on the bed in anticipation of those cold nights!!! Now if I could only just stay at home, snuggled with my dog on those cold days, I'd be quite happy! But, let the week come. I am ready to meet it and face whatever challenges come my way. And I am sure there will be challenges. I am also hoping for something good to happen! An interview would be nice! :)
Have a great week!

First Post of 2011!
And it only took me 4 days to post it! Yay!
The new year started off quietly and with family! As I get older, I appreciate the time that I spend with my parents and my sister more and more. My sister was here the entire week between Christmas and New Year's. We were able to get some shopping in, family dinners and a night at the movies.
My sister and I saw Black Swan during her stay. This is the movie with Natalie Portman as a ballerina who lands the leading role in Swan Lake. It was very, very good! But you must like psychological thrillers and be comfortable with some of the "adult" scenes. I have to say that both my sister and I were very glad that our parents did not come with us! It would have been a tad bit uncomfortable! And when we left the movie, we both just kind of looked at each other and said "WTH?". But no regrets seeing it and definitely would recommend it to others. My sister, who used to be a ballerina, also said that Portman and the cast did an excellent job at the ballet sequences.
I posted my goals for 2011 in a post on New Year's Eve. My cousin, Jessica, also made a list of goals that I am posting here. We are going to be each other's support and cheer each other on to work on each of our goals!
Jessica's goals:
#1. My first goal is to not get down in January, I can only think positively and move forward!
#2. Travel both near and far having fun, see and try new things, and have these experiences both on my own, with family and friends, and most importantly with Diego (her son)!
#3. (I'm stealing this from you!) Get my passport. Because you never know right? I want to go to many places that are far, a passport is necessary and if I have it right there starring at me, I will feel more motivated. Hell, Diego has one!
#4. Find employment that is suitable for me and my needs, both financially and spiritually. I need challenges, happiness, security and to learn and grow from my career and the people I meet/interact with. (My poor cousin recently was laid off from her job right before Christmas. Please pray for her that she finds employment quickly!)
#5. Continue to stay active and involved in activities and issues that matter to me, that I have passion for.
#6. Change up my activities and exercise so I feel confident with me and my body as well as content internally.
#7. Continue to build on my relationships with family and friends, and stay open to not just offering support but asking for it when I need it.
#8. Love with passion and kindness. Be open to differences and be grateful for them. Continue to take risks and know that I am as deserving and worthy to happiness as the next person.
#9. Live my life as I have always dreamed it to be. Stay positive in the hardest and darkest of times, and don't shy away from what scares me, knowing that I can find beauty in even the simplest of lifes moments so I won't waste them
#10. Laugh...it's the best soul food.
I look forward to seeing how we both progress on our goals. I mentioned to her that I like to revisit my goals every 3 months or so to see how I am progressing. I have no expectations of finishing a goal, just working towards it. I think it is very important to move forward!
I have been doing some stitching and I hope to post a picture soon! I have a list of stitching goals that I DO hope to complete this year!
